that fighting against corruption is a collective responsibility for all SAIs, governments, institutions,
and individuals.
SAB President then extended his gratitude to his peers in the GCC SAIs for their condolences on
the passing of His Highness the late Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
He stated that their brotherly stance helped ease the grief and presented a vivid example of the
solidarity and unity of the GCC people.
Al-Shaya further extended his congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber
Al-Sabah for embarking upon his new responsibilities as the Emir of Kuwait and H.H Sheikh Meshal
Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for being appointed by acclamation to become the new Crown Prince.
He prayed that Allah would grant them the success to resume their duties in serving Kuwait and its
people. Al-Shaya also congratulated Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf for his appointment as the new Secretary-
General of the GCC. He wished success to him and to all his colleagues at the General Secretariat
in carrying out their obligations. He expressed his appreciation and gratitude to his predecessor
Mr. Abdul Latif A-Zayani for all his dedicated efforts.
On the other hand, Heba Al-Awadhi, Controller of the International Relations at SAB’s Training
and International Relations Department, stated that the meeting agenda included a discussion
of a report on the issued resolutions of the 16th Meeting of their Excellencies the Heads of GCC
SAIs and the 21st Meeting of the GCC SAIs’ Undersecretaries. She explained that the General
Secretariat Memorandum on SAB’s proposal on disseminating knowledge and awareness on SDG
audit was presented before the meeting. The meeting also addressed the themes of the GCC’s
5th Competition for Research and Studies in audit and accounting. Al-Awadhi emphasized that a
resolution was issued to endorse the Abu Dhabi Declaration on “Effectively Enhancing Cooperation
among SAIs and Anti-Corruption Institutions.”
It is worth mentioning that the annual meeting of their Excellencies, the Heads of the GCC SAIs,
aims to support the joint action of regional SAIs in the context of public funds audit within the
member states. The meeting also coordinates the common positions of GCC SAIs and the
International Organizations with which they affiliate as members.
